We Are Back: A Personal Update from Vee Culinary
Hello friends,
You may have noticed that it’s been quiet around here for quite some time. I’ve received thoughtful messages from friends, clients, and members of the Vee Culinary community checking in—and I want to thank you. Your concern and kindness have meant more than I can say. Today, I’d like to share where I’ve been and why I’ve been away from the kitchen.
A Season of Health Challenges
Last spring (2024), I began experiencing increasing neck pain along with a troubling loss of strength and mobility in my arms and hands. Unfortunately, this wasn’t entirely unexpected. I’ve faced ongoing spinal issues throughout my adult life, beginning with paralysis caused by spinal meningitis in 1984, and compounded by a shattered lower disc in 1998.
After consultations with two neurosurgeons, I was advised to undergo ACDF surgery (Anterior Cervical Discectomy and Fusion) on the cervical portion of my spine. While I hoped to manage the condition through physical therapy, acupuncture, and other natural modalities, both surgeons cautioned that these alone were unlikely to resolve the issue. I decided to try the natural route first—but as time passed, my strength and dexterity continued to decline.
Knowing that I wanted to make it through the holiday season with Vee Culinary, I scheduled my surgery for January 2025.
The Road to Recovery
On January 13th, I was rolled into surgery—and when I came out, I already felt noticeably stronger. After a 30-day healing window, I began a structured three-month physical therapy and strength training program.
While I’m still continuing physical therapy, I’m thrilled to say that I feel stronger than I have in years. More importantly, I’m finally back in the kitchen, doing what I love most.
Looking Ahead: A New Chapter
This time away has given me space to reflect deeply on the future of Vee Culinary. I’ve poured a lot of heart and thought into what comes next, and I’m excited about the possibilities on the horizon.
I’m profoundly grateful to everyone who extended support during this time—whether through kind messages, prayers, or quiet understanding. Your encouragement carried me through.
Though we’re already five months into the year, for me, it feels like a fresh start. A new year. A new beginning. And I can’t wait to create, teach, and share more with all of you in the months ahead.
With gratitude,
